I've got a sweet, seemingly very healthy light brahma chick that is about 2 weeks old and she shimmies backwards - a good 6 inches or so - every time she poops! Has anybody seen this or know what could be going on? It is really funny but I'm a little worried that there could be some sort of underlying physical issue.

It's kinda great to have a warning before they poo on you. :sick

I see the majority do it... honestly wouldn't surprise me if it somehow had something to do with keeping poo more out of the nest in nature. Some even lift their wings like Lamborghini doors (even ducklings). :love

Thank you both for the calming words! This is our third batch and I just haven't seen anything like it - she really shakes her tail fluff! Interesting theory on keeping the nest clean. Thanks again!

I just got some Barred Rocks Friday. 20180819_135458.jpg . Most if not all do that shake before the poo. It's hilarious. I would love to get a video, but it happens so fast, I would have to be recording at the time.
I got Golden Comet chicks 28 months ago and I don't remember them doing it. Could be I just don't remember. GC

Always good to pay attention... Do her droppings seem normal? Is she eating and drinking? Does she seem uncomfortable or in pain in any way, loud stress peeps while pooing? Signs of pasty butt, spend an unusual amount of time trying to push droppings out? Or just pretty animated?

If there doesn't seem to be anything really off... I would continue to be amused... it is pretty cute and quite hilarious! :p

But if you have reason for concern we can investigate further.
