Well, I received the chicks this morning. Unfortunately, they're not in good shape, three were DOA. All the others appeared to be DOA, except one was slightly moving (no chirping) . When I got home & took out the chicks, only when I picked them up did I discover that most were still alive, but barely holding on. I'm pretty sure they were hours or even minutes from death.
I've been hand watering them all morning & afternoon. All but two are now standing on their own. Two even discovered their water & food. Most appear they may recover, but I can't be sure. Currently they're all huddled under their MHP.
Can anyone tell me what it means when the chicks crow their necks back, falling backwards (unless I hold them up) when given water/Electrolytes? Almost looks like a muscle spasm. The two worst off do it every time I give them water or put them under the MHP.
Oh sad. How are they now?
What your descibing with their necks i have seen them do when they are dying.
What hatchery did you order from?
May my three baby girls rest in peace!![]()

Hopefully I don't have to go through this again tomorrow, but I'm afraid I probably will with at least two others. All I can do at this point is let them rest in their MHP. I ordered these chicks through Tractor Supply online, they ship from Hoover's Hatchery.![]()
