Chick shipment?

This morning all six seemed to be doing well, eating, drinking & running around. As I watched, one just stopped seemingly having any interest, she's just been standing under the MHP. I took her out to try to show her the food & water, but she just stood there until I put her back under the MHP. Three had pasty buttons, which I cleaned, I think she was the worst of the bunch. Is there anything I should do to help her along?

are they getting Poly Visol or any type of supplement in their water?

I hadn't added any today, because they seemed to be doing well and didn't want to waste another gallon worth when they don't drink but a little in 24 hours. I've now put Sav A Chick in one bottle & plain water in another. Not sure how much to put in the bottle since I don't want to make a whole gallon again.

Sorry. I know a refund won't help you, but it is important that the hatchery be notified. Something went very wrong here.

Try wetting their food 50:50 with some active culture yogurt or buttermilk. It really helps prevent pasty butt.

I contacted the hatchery yesterday, they're giving me a refund; not sure if for the 8 I lost or for the whole lot.

I'm pretty sure that i got some birds from the same shipment as you(shipped Tuesday from Hoovers Hatchery). They arrived on Thursday to North Carolina and I had two birds that I was worried about since the beginning. Those two ended up dying within the first 24 hours, but i have 13 remaining who appear to be happy and healthy. I feel so sorry for you, this was our first time raising chicks and losing those two was traumatic enough. My wife stayed up way too late at night giving fluids to the second one, only to have it die as she watched. I wish you much better luck with your locally purchased chicks!

Glad most of yours made it alright. Did you follow the tracking? Were they shipped to Saint Paul, MN first? Sitting there for 10+ hours? Mine then sat for 12 hours in Denver before making their way here. Maybe we should petition USPS to provide heat for live animals.

Yep, it appeared that they were in St Paul for quite a while. The tracking said expected delivery of Friday so I was very happy to get that call on Thursday saying they were in town.

Morning update:

Five of the chicks are doing wonderful, doing what chicks do. On the other hand, the one I was worried about yesterday is still inactive, had pasty butt again this morning. She won't even take water when dropped on her beak. She's getting weak & now is having a hard time staying on her feet. I'd be surprised if she makes it through the day.

Wish me luck!

Best regards,
