we have a chicken at the moment sitting on eggs but there were too many for her to keep warm so we put some in the incubator. so far we have had two chicks hatch (1 that was already under mama chicken and 1 from the incubator) and they are both healthy and happy. this morning we checked the eggs in the incubator and saw that one had a crack in it so we put it under mama chicken. it has been under there for nearly 12 hours now and there is still that one small hole that she cracked. we have checked the egg to make sure it is alive and she is moving and chirping inside. if she doesn't hatch by herself do we assist her?

Everyone has to learn, but you shouldn't ever take an egg out of an incubator if it has a crack, sometimes called a "Pip".. It can potentially be dangerous to the chick.
Hatching takes a lot of time and energy, leave it alone for now. Some chicks take days to hatch. Assistance is for emergency only, "helping" too early will kill it.
Dont check on it until tomorrow evening if you can stand to wait that long ;) then let us know how its doing.

Hi, we checked on it this morning and there was 2 little chicks, one still wet so just hatched! I think we were just being a little impatient and worried as this is our first time using an incubator. Just checked again and another 2 are pipping. Thankyou for your help!

So happy to see they're doing well! Dont worry about it, everyone gets nervous and anxious when its hatchtime. You're doing great, they look good!
