Chick starter for adult bird?

We have one adult EE who was continually beat up so bad by our flock that we put her in her own pen. But she was all alone so we got a few chicks to integrate with her. So far that is going great, and we're hoping to have them together this week BUT...I was wondering about the food. We'll have to leave chick starter out for the chicks. Will we still be able to eat the EE's eggs with the antibiotics in the feed?

Anyone?

are you saying the food is medicated?? I use starter and grower and it is not medicated and yes, you can eat the eggs from the hens...

But if you wanted to continue w/ medicated for the chicks, you could just not eat that hens egg OR I think you might be able to scramble them up and feed it back to them or mix it w/ your dog's food (if you have one)

Yes, the chick starter is medicated.

That's a good idea...scrambling and giving back to them! I'd give it back to the dogs only one of them (and he's only 12 months old) is such an "easy keeper" that he puts on weight in the slightest change in his diet.

How long after we stop giving the chick starter could we go back to eating our EE's eggs? Not sure how long it takes to get out of their system.

Are you sure it's an antibiotic in the feed? In 18 years I've never seen that. Usually, medicated feed is to prevent coccidiosis, a protozoan parasite. Amprollium, perhaps?

Be sure you add some free choice oyster shell for the EE hen, since starter doesn't have enough calcium for her.

No I'm not sure it's an antibiotic...I guess I just assumed!!! If it's medicated to prevent coccidiosis would we want to eat that? Is it safe or just feed it back to them til the EE can be on adult food with the babies???
