Chick Starter Forever?

18% grower works well for their entire life. Any chicks I hatch get one bag of starter and then go to grower forever. I may be wrong but I think the extra protein helps with laying and when molting the extra protein surly doesn't hurt when their trying to regrow feathers.
My food is a starter/grower, so I guess that counts. I'm pretty darn happy with the food. They seem to like it, and their poop didn't stink the entire time they were babies. I was really impressed.

I also feed Flock Raiser, a 20% all flock feed, with separate oyster shell, to everyone.
I have roosters, molting birds, older birds who lay fewer eggs, and sometime broody hens and chicks. The same food all the time for everyone!
A little bit more expensive, but works great. Also, spending extra $$ for high protein treats makes no sense to me, as it would cost more overall anyway.

I was feeding my chicks Show Gold which is 26% protein but the company stopped making it so I switched over to Game Bird starter which is 28% protein. I called the company for their suggestion since I show my birds at poultry shows. They also have a Show Gold grower which is small pellets @ 20% protein. During the summer months when it's hot they get the regular layer feed but when they start molting I switch over to Game Bird Breeder feed which is higher in protein since their feathers are mostly from protein I think they can use the extra protein then. They also get the breeder starting about one month prior to collecting eggs for hatching.
