Chick Umbilical Cord

Hi! My baby chick has an umbilical cord stuck to her belly. It is not connected to the shell anymore, but do you think it will eventually fall off?

How big is the stump? Mine has an umbilical stump about the size of 2 jelly beans. It is hard Dry and dark red/brown. how is your chick doing?

She is good. I’m sure it will fall off soon. I have one more question. Is it normal for chicks to be opening their mouths super wide? One of my chicks does this sometimes and I am worried about her

Yes it’s normal they do that sometimes. I think as with most things if they aren’t doing it excessively it’s fine. Even my adult hens did this. I think it helps push food down or they are yawning.
