I don't know what it is called, but it's where they absorb the yolk from, that usually heals over, that could be likened to our belly buttons? This Light Brahma chick I have is about 4 days old. He seems to be fine, but recently he is more lethargic and I looked at him today and noticed that he has this dried up black stuff on that opening (No, it isn't pasty butt) and it is oozing sticky yellow stuff. I have had this happen before and we let it go and the chick died- is there anything I can do? Should I snip off the stuff on the outside and put some antibiotic on the wound with a band-aid or something on top? Betadine? Or is there nothing I can do?

Oh, I don't know, I have never had that happen before. I am sorry your little chickie is having problems. Have you tried posting under emergencies?

I hope your baby is OK.
