When I went to check on my serama chicks this morning one was on it's back and it seemed to have been there for a while flailing it's legs due to the wat the shavings looked around it. At first sight I thought they were dead but I turned it over and it seemed fine though wobbly and very weak. After being on it's feet for a while it seemed to regain strength and is perfectly fine.

Has anyone had this happen where a chick got on it's back and got stuck and struggled so much it died of exhastion?

Yes, they can die of heart failure from the stress. I'm glad your baby is ok.

If they stay on their back they will die. Their hearts will stop cause it puts pressure on them in that position.

Its was on it's back agian this morning, I tryed to help it but it died in my hands. I am now down to 4 chicks.

I agree there was probably something else wrong with the chick. I'm so sorry. :aww

I am sad too, luckily I have a dozen of Jody's eggs in the bator and I'm not giving up on the Seramas yet, I have more eggs coming in febuary.

This makes me wonder if momma isn't a bad momma after all and just these chicks had problems.....
