Got my chicks yesterday and one of my Salmon Faverolles has an eye that wasn't open all the way and she was acting pretty lazy. I got some Nutri-drench and egg yolk in her, cleaned the eye with a little dropper of saline and she perked right up. Woke up this morning to find it was stuck shut again, repeat the saline and a warm compress and also a drop of antibiotic eye drops. My question is if this is an injury from hatching/pecking or something else.

Also this sounds weird but her head seems bigger than the other chicks. Not sure if it shows up well in the picture but she is rounder than the other chicks. This isn't my first chick rodeo and I want to save her but I know sometimes chicks just don't make it and if that's going to be the case I don't want to torture her lol

She may have gotten something in her eye or pecked. I would continue with the saline flushing and antibiotic ointment twice a day. Does he head feel like there is air under the skin? A leaking air sac can occur with trauma. I would continue the Poultry NutriDrench daily, and offer chick crumbles, moistened crumbles in a small cup, and egg yolk. Make sure that she is drinking. Check her for any pasty butt.

No pasty butt. Head feels normal but she doesn't seem super interested in food though she has been drinking by herself. I will try the egg yolk again. Thanks!

She may not be able to see well with the sore eye and ointment, so I would offer water and food often. I like to sprinkle some crumbles around their feet on clean paper towels and tap it to get them to eat. I have raised a afew salmon favorolles, and they are very mild mannered or even meek chickens. I hope that she survives, but shipping stress can weaken some.

She is pretty mild mannered. Ive had three other Favs but never rasied them from chicks. She is chowing down like she's making up for lost time on some mush. Her eye is open again now. How many days should I keep doing the antibiotic?
