My chick, Bowie, is probably about 6 weeks old at this point. I thought she was Fine for the first few weeks but now that all of the chicks are getting older and taller….Bowie still isn't standing tall. I pulled her out of the pen to examine her because I saw she wasn't walking very well. Both of her legs look bent and I am not sure if they will permanently be that way or ? ? My sister recommends splinting, and my husband says we should cull her. SHe does not appear to be suffering, she poops normally, eats and peeps. She did seem very scared and a bit shaky when I was examining her though, which none of my other chicks/chickens have ever done. This is my first Easter Egger, so maybe it is a breed thing? If you guys think braces will work, do you have any tips? Input GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks!

I took a video of her too, so you can really see the issue and how she moves.

I have been checking this out and will try to make her some hock splints- thanks!! :)

Sad news….Bowie was not improving at all, splints and cushions and everything else just made things worse for her. She was getting trampled constantly by the other chicks and even started hanging one wing down to her side. After doing some reading I realized that the bigger and heavier she got, it would just get even worse. We decided to put her down so she would stop suffering and be at peace. Sad…..she was my favorite!

I am so sorry, sometimes we have to do that, i had to do that with a guinea keet- i tried until he was in pain as he got heavier- about the only choice would have been in a sling all his life- and we decided that wasn't fair-
