chick with eye problem

I have a 2 week old chick whose eye appears to be mattered shut. If I rinse it off, she can open her eye. Before long she is keeping it closed again. Does anyone have any idea on the cause or cure for this? Thanks.

You can get a tube of terramycin opthalmic ointment to apply. I would clean her eyes with warm water first, then apply according to the instructions. Be sure to either wear disposable gloves or wash your hands thoroughly so you don't spread the infection to others.

Thanks, my DH has an assignment this morning. Hopefully our TSC has terramycin in stock.

I think it may depend on what state you live in- some states won't allow it to be carried as an "over the counter" drug. I can't get it here.. but I think it can be mail ordered...
