I don't know what it is called, but it's where they absorb the yolk from, that usually heals over, that could be likened to our belly buttons? This Light Brahma chick I have is about 4 days old. He seemed to be fine, but recently he is more lethargic and I looked at him today and noticed that he has this dried up black stuff on that opening (No, it isn't pasty butt) and it is oozing sticky yellow stuff. I have had this happen before and we let it go and the chick died- is there anything I can do? Should I snip off the stuff on the outside and put some antibiotic on the wound with a band-aid or something on top? Betadine? Or is there nothing I can do?

(I originally posted this in the Chick Rearing section, but it was reccomended I re-post it here)

I don't have any advice for you, as I've never had this happen, but I'm sure someone will give you some advice soon. The people on this forum are so WONDERFULLY helpful! Good luck with your chick!
