Hello,

I have a baby chick- probably about 2 weeks old, that has splayed legs. They are different than the spraddle legs that go out to the side. Her one leg goes out to the front and the other out towards the back, not out to the sides. I got her last weekend when she was sick and not eating on her own. I suspected URI and treated accordingly. She started doing very well with getting hand fed and even had the strength to flop around and get food on her own. I noticed then that something was wrong with one of her legs and it bent inward towards her body around her hock. We tried bandaging her leg with help from our local vet but it seemed to cause her more stress having the bandages on and I was worried she would injure herself further. The bandage came off the next day. She seemed to be doing fine and was able to get to the food and water on her own with no trouble. Now last night I noticed she has been keeping both legs very straight, one in front and one behind, and kind of rocking front and back to get around her pen. She has good traction in her cage for her to get around and bowls are low enough for her to get to the food and water with no issue. I just cant seem to find anything on what is going on with her. All I see is how to fix legs that goes out to the side. any info and advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having kinda the same issue. We've already hatched 2 batches of Polish Frizzle Frazzles and Bantams with no problems. We are now on the 3rd and 1 Bantam hatched last night and 1 of the Frizzles has hatched, but it can't stand up. It doesnt look like the splayed legs, it just keeps one leg tucked to its body with its toes closed and the other leg just kinda lays there. When it tries to stand up all it does is go around in circles. It will eat food out of our hand and if i put it next to the water drink, but it can't make it by itself. We've hatched out probably close to 50 chicks in the past and never had one act like this before. So I did the research and we put the bandaid on it's legs just to try and see if that would help, but its not seeming to do anything. Any other advice on what could be the problem???

Here are some pictures of my little chick to show what I am trying to explain.

Awww...poor little fellow :( When we woke up this morning our little guy had already got the bandaid off and was walking around just fine.It was almost like he came out off his egg to soon. So it looks like yours can walk right? Just the legs aren't side by side.

I tried doing the bandaid thing with her but even after days with it on she is still like this. We bandaged the one leg we think is broken but that did more damage than good as she had trouble even laying down. She can still walk, although its not a normal walk by any means. She rocks front and back to get around. Both legs move when I hold her but as far as when she is on her own she keeps them both pretty straight.
