One of my chicks makes a sound out of pain when poops. The poops look completely normal. They aren’t watery. The place where I got them from had a lot of them with clumps of poop stuck to they’re butt. They weren’t taking care of that. I’m wondering if it’s just raw? It looks like there is a scab and maybe that is hurting? I don’t know if there is anything I can put on to help it heal and hurt less. Maybe a little Vaseline? But I don’t want them eating anything harmful to them. Any suggestions or knowledge would be greatly appreciated! :)

oh she is about 2 week old. On a chick starter feed since I got them which was only 3 days ago

The same thing happened with my 2 Colombian wyandotte chicks back in March. When they were a couple weeks old, they started crying out as if in pain every time they pooped! They never had any problems with pasty butt or other health issues and eventually they stopped doing it after a few weeks. They are big, happy healthy birds now & thinking about laying eggs at 20 weeks.
I hope your chick grows out of it soon too.

I'm sorry. The picture of your chick didn't load on my phone when I first posted my reply.
I wouldn't ignore that either. I agree with giving her a gentle bath with warm water & keep a close eye on her. Good luck.

Scabbed vents are sensitive. Think about it. When you get a scab somewhere flexable, if you flex ir, the scab usually tries to tear. Now imagine that movement somewhere as sensitive as a vent

I had a russian orloff chick that did the same. I cleaned her vent gently everyday, then applied a generous amount of coconut oil in the vent area. I had to do this once or twice a day for two weeks until she grew out of it. The coconut oil also helped her poop become less stiff. I think it was because she didn't like to drink water very much...

I think it is just the scab and will try helping her with that. I was just worried because she was so young and new to us that it could have been a digestive problem. She has been doing it less recently!
