Oh, that's too funny! We have a coop camera that is movable, too, but it's mounted above the door where the chickens can't get to it. And it's attached to the mounting board, just in case. Most of the time, they don't seem to notice, but I swear, at night, when they are all nicely asleep on the roosts, if I sit here at my desk and go to the camera, the all suddenly start to sit up and look around! It's like they know someone is watching.
Okay, you've got us all in stitches and wanting a coop-cam! Now, out with the information! What kind of cam, where did you get it, how much did it cost? I HAVE to have one! Plus, it would be a great way to keep an eye on the girls at night.

This is one that I had lying around unused. Model BL-C131A from panasonic - there are newer models available now. These are net/IP cams that connect to your home network on their own without a computer. Brand new they will set you back 2-300 depending on features. I spent more than I wanted to but was ok with it due to the feature set and user reviews. Units that don't pan are considerably less. I would definitely check out CL or eBay for better deals. For wireless units, you usually have to set it up with a wired config first, then set it up wireless. So now this cam sits inside my coop with only a power cord and works flawlessly via wifi.
Now, I would say that if I didn't have one already, i would probably buy one anyway for the girls. It's great way to monitor their behavior and provide valuable feedback on the overall design of the coop. I'm glad I have the option of checking on them from afar.
