Chicken Addition

Egg shaped welcome.jpg

If you do not get enough room in the coop by removing nest boxes, it is time to expand it!

I am so sorry....I went and re-measured. Forgot to include the pop outs for the nesting area. So I can add 2 more feet to the wide of the coop. Does that make a difference. Told you all...I'm old

It might - but you really should send some pics & dimensions. And, if you really can't kill anything, as you noted earlier, I'd pass along your rooster, too. Without him, you won't have the chance of hatching more roos ... and might gain enough space for one more hen!

Nesting area doesn't count as usable floor space, as chickens only use it for laying. More importantly the other thing you need to consider is integration of new birds, whether young or old, takes more space above the minimum. Throwing them together works in rare cases, but more often than not there's fighting over space and resources, and you need room in order for birds to get away from one another if it becomes violent.

Sorry, But I'm back again. One of my hens is just laying in a nest. She only moves out when I go to collect eggs. She is not sitting on any. Just almost like she is hiding. Any hints as to what's up with her? Just started 2 days ago.
She might be going broody.
