I'm not sure where to post this..... I'm guessing chicken behavior. My son called me a couple of hours ago and said one of our pullets was either carrying around a snake or the worlds largest earthworm. We tracked her down and she was happily playing keep away from the other chickens with a foot long garter snake hanging by the tail from her beak. We pestered her to drop it, and boy, that was one annoyed hissing little still-alive snake. It went off into the bushes where it should thank its lucky stars it wasn't pulled apart in a chicken tug-a-war.

If only she would leave our snake population alone and go after wasps.....

One of my girls got a baby copperhead and ran around - chased by the rest of the flock. I joined the chase & poked her butt with a (long) stick until she got annoyed enough to drop it. Then I had to keep the others from diving on top of it.

On a long winter night, your chicken will probably tell the younger chickens about "The one that got away", and the garter snake is telling all his buddies about his harrowing ordeal.
