    Happy easter :)
A young kid (maybe 7) was shooting bb pellets in my yard and at my chickens a couple days ago. I saw some of my chickens pecking around at the pellets and one of my hens ate one. They are those zinc coded steel pellet ones. Will my chickens be okay?

magicians swallow stray bullets sometimes, some of them die and some are ok. Wait ! what about this kid ? have you informed the parents / police ? what are you doing about that ?

    steel is good to eat
    zinc is good to eat

lead is toxic, the government feeds it to poor populations in the USA in the water supply lately, so it's in the news as bad.

    Africa - near the equator
They will be fine - most likely pass straight through. Any element (metals in this case), be they harmful or not, have to be bioavailable to have an effect - they will simply not remain in their system sufficiently long for that to be the case.

sounds like the chicken should give up eating entirely, because none of it is going to do any good at all.

I'm not sure if anyone was actually helpful, or even tried to be. I've never encountered this particular problem before. But when my chicks came down with Cocci, I was told to mix Powdered Milk with their food, as it would coat the lining of their intestines and slow it's progress and give the antibiotics time to work. You might try that and monitor her to make sure she passes the BB.

I was quite helpful, in my own opinion 8^)

    As I said

    I also said
Quote: For those who don't know, steel is made of iron, plus a tiny bit of carbon. Carbon is that stuff we are made of, and every plant we eat contains lots of carbon. We can eat Iron, it's essential to our lives. It makes our blood red, literally.

lead is toxic, it's what politicians put into the water in the USA

So if the bullet is zinc and steel, it is safe to eat, for the chook and the people who eat the eggs. If it is lead, then it's bad to eat.
