Hi BYC Community! I found you guys while trying to get some help off google for my chicken and everyone here has already been so helpful, but I think I need some more specific advice.
7 days ago our newest chicken flew over the wrong fence and got attacked by a dog. At first I thought she was dead, but after I realized she was alive I brought her inside and rinsed everything with betadine. I didn't think she would make it so I didn't put her through the pain of really trying to clean everything up pretty, just smeared triple antibiotic ointment over everything and put her in a box.
After 3 days she started chirping so I started researching how to clean her wounds. Ive been rinsing the wound with distilled water trying to get the debris cleared. Then I spray her with saline solution to wash off the water and I finish with spraying Vetericyn plus over everything. After that dries I will coat the wounds with triple antibiotic ointment. On the 4th day I added Elta silver gel (55 ppm silver) after her Vetericyn spray and before the antibiotic ointment. I have been putting a broad spectrum antibiotic in her water. She has been eating, drinking and pooping really well.
From what I have read on here, my main concern at this point is infection. I can see a little bit of bone in her right wing wound. The flesh around the edge of the wound on her back seems to be dying now too (i didn't notice signs of the skin dying until day 7). The smell of death has gotten better each day as I clean her up more, but everything still looks dead or dying.
Should I be bandaging her? It takes a lot out of her to do the cleanings, I don't want to do "too much" but I also really want her to live a happy chicken life once this is over with, she is only 6 months old.
The pictures are from day 3,4,5, and 7 respectively.

I would skip the distilled water, and clean her with either Vetericyn or Betadine or Chorhexidene and water. The chlorhexidene needs to be rinsed off. Then apply the plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day. Saline would be fine once the infection is gone. If you are seeing necrotic or dead tissue, clean if off. Leave it open to air. Is she eating a balanced chicken feed and eating? Cooked egg, tuna, and sunflower hearts are nutritious high protein treats. Probiotics, a small amount of plain greek yogurt mixed into a little feed, or buttermilk would be good to help get the gut bacteria healthy during and after the antibiotic. I am amazed that she has survived the wojnds, but chickens are very good at healing.
