Hi, I am new to the group and I need help. I have Faverolles, Dominiques and Cochin (Buff and Partridge) chickens. They are 7 months old. My problem is that my Partridge Cochin rooster has started attacking me when I go into the pen. I can't turn my back to him because he will attack me.
He is extremely aggressive. Please can someone tell me what to do. Pam

Looks like it's time for the stewpot......

Unfortunately 'dinner' may be the best option. Roosters can do a LOT of damage, especially to children. I even have scars from a scrawny little Polish roo.

I'm sorry, I'm sure thats not what you were wanting to hear.

Before you try the stewpot, try carrying him around with you, wherever you go for a few days, even in the house. Cuddle him, watch TV with him, carry him by his legs, but don't let him get away. Basically make a fuss of him, baby him, and let him know you're boss. It works in some cases, but not all.

We have the same problem with a large Lakenvelder that belongs to my mom. We carry a small broom with us when we go in her yard. He has learned to stay away, but he hates brown boots, they really set him off. Good Luck

Thank everyone for their help. As of today I have started a Love my rooster campaign. Every couple of hours I go to the coop and get my trouble boy and take him for a walk around the perimeter of our land. It starts out with holding him by the feet and after about 5 minutes I hold him in my arms and we finish our walk. So now I get some good exercise and I get to bond with my bad boy. I sure hope this works cause I don't want to eat him, he is just too pretty.

Hi,

I had a roo that was very aggressive. He was a perfect gentleman to the ladies but mean and nasty to us. I carried around an umbrella and would open and close it when he approached me. He ran away every time. I tried the carrying him around thing. When I carried him around I carried him upside down (don't know if I was supposed to) and this really made him mad! It seemed the more I carried him and 'babied' him the more he got angry. What worked for me was to hold the ubmrella when i went in to feed them. Other times I didn't bother him and he didn't bother me. I know that might sound wimpy but keeping the peace really seemed to work for us. I did find that he was an excellent roo for the ladies. The best we ever had so far.
Hope it all works out.

I LOVED the article about "keeping your rooster sane".

As a child, I remember a rooster that used to attack everyone. He was a colored easter chick (pink...my sister's green one died)....remember those? Unfortunately, he wound up on the table because of his aggression. We couldn't bring ourselves to eat him though.
