Chicken block swap due June 15th

I've got my chicken applique drawn up. I saw one that I really liked but it needed, well, a little something extra. Not telling what that might be!. I'm going with the whole "I am the artist" thing. Looking forward to ths one.

I was thinking about trying my hand at pattern making for this one too. Not sure though, I've seen several cute patterns online, ............................... so we'll see where it goes.

Do you machine applique??? If you do what stitch? Do you press under or stitch over raw edges, and do you use fusable interfacing to do it????? Those questions are for all applique'ers out there.

I've done it all ways and none dissapoint. I'm going with fusible web on this one. My new sewing machine has a couple of decorative stitches I've been wanting to try out. It has a blanket stitch that I'll use mostly.
@Kassaundra your TARDIS is unbelievably cool!
We're in for more cold temps and snow tonight.
Winter, go home!

I have never appliqued before and was planning on paper piece for this swap, but saw so many cool and amusing appliqued patterns, I was considering maybe giving it a try.

Oh and thanks about the TARDIS block

The only fusible you can just about get away with not stitching round the edge is steam a seam 2. Even this is better if blanket stitched round or satin stitch,(close zig zag)

While I have been researching patterns and looking at other chicken blocks posted online, I have noticed many of the really bright chicken blocks have a black and white background. I think I am going to imitate that I really like the look it gives. I figure I have enough brights in my stash, now to find the perfect b/w fabric.

Kassaundra, you can also cut the pattern from freezer paper, iron on to back of your fabric, cut 1/4" larger, press under edge then remove paper and use the hem stitch around edge. Good tutes on Youtube.
