June15th Quilt Swap
It’s time to sign up for the next BYC quilt block swap! Woo Hoo!!
Let’s do a Chicken Summer Color Block The block has to resemble a chicken, squares arranged to look like a chicken,It could be foundation pieced or appliqued the brighter the better !!!!!! Get really creative and wild with the colors, prints or solids you are the artist.

Please make 12.5” x 12.5” blocks that allow for seam allowances.
We will need to make 12 blocks but an unlimited number of people may join.Due date will be June 15th.
Let the quilting begin!
I am on BYC often, and I will be available to answer questions, and all who send blocks will receive blocks from whoever else takes part. I ask that when you ship your blocks, add a large SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) for easy block shipment. However many blocks we each receive is dependent on how many quilters take part. ALL BLOCKS are sent to me (yes, even yours your keeping) so that I can be sure every pile of blocks sent out contains one from every single sender. It’s confusing to keep track of 12 - 15 different piles, and who doesn't need one. I want no mistakes, so make and send them all at once.
TO SIGN UP: Please put "SIGN ME UP" OR "YES, I'M IN" or something all by itself in a post on the forum. (Or, put it first, then elaborate) Please post you want to be involved HERE on THIS THREAD.
Thanks
Kat

Have a pattern, share it because there are no two chickens alike

This is how I was taught in a class that was offered by my lqs more than 15 years ago. You need freezer paper and a washable glue stick. Trace and cut your pattern from the freezer paper. Place waxy side down on the wrong side of your fabric. Press it down. No steam with a hot iron. Trim around the piece using a generous 1/4 seam allowance. Use the glue stick on the edges of the pattern and fold up the seam allowance all the way around. At this point I have done needle turn and blanket stitch to appliqué to the background fabric. Options for removing the paper include; complete the appliqué and cut a small slit in the background fabric and remove the paper then sew up the slit - works well for large pieces, or sew to nearly the end and the pull out the paper. And finish the stitching - small pieces. Eithe way it helps to lightly dampen the edges to dissolve the glue. When I have large pieces like the chicken body for these blocks I will adhere the fabric, glue the edges and the trim the bulk of the paper from out of the middle of the pattern. This allows the fabris to be a little more pliable which is nice if you are hand stitching. This method is how I have always done appliqué. I'm happy to answer questions. I think if you google freezer paper appliqué you might get a photo or video tutorial.

I just want to remind us that the blocks do not have to be appliqued

I have just finished a quilt for our bed! It has been quilted on a long arm machine but there was 450 inches of binding to be sewn on!

I still need to sew them down and add the eyes. Chicken Soup

If you click on the picture it enlarges it.

Red work could be super simple. Maybe a 4" centre block, small enough for hearts and flowers...or chicky babes..I have heart of the home in my head now. My question is, hoe do you know the dye wont run off the thread?
You could put your thread in a lingerie bag and wash it before hand to be sure.

Would the block size be 12"?

I designed my redwork last night and I think I will need at least a 6" inner block as I don't want to make it really small. Heart of the home hu? Is that a house with a heart inside? You could put a chicken inside the heart too!
