Chicken blood? *slightly graphic pictures*

I gotta admit, it looks like candle wax to me also. Did you try to peel some of it and warming it in the house to see if its frozen blood or candle wax?

Do you have any locks on your coop? Can anyone just walk up to it and get inside? Could have been someone looking for a few free eggs to eat.

no there aren't any locks, but there isn't anyone around my house and we have dogs and they only lay like two eggs a week.

Comb wounds bleed like the dickens-especially when they decide to shake their heads making it bleed more.
Is she still bleeding? Sorry I couldn't tell from your picture.

blood looks funny when it freezes before it can congeal... that is exactly how the blood in my coop looked when it was frozen. the comb on your bird looks good. I'd bring her in, wash her comb (so the others don't pick so much) put a dab of neosporin on it, and call it good.
