I noticed that one of my 11 month old Lavender Orphington chicken was lethargic but eating on Thu.

Friday, Mar 13th
When I checked on her in the morning she was lethargic, but was eating with the rest of the chickens. When I went back out around 11 to check she was laying on the ground breathing heavy so I moved her to the garage to monitor. By the afternoon she was standing, breathing heavy with her mouth open and not pooping.

I've done the following:

  • Gave her water & food (she ate a lil food)
  • Checked her crop and belly and both were squishy/soft
  • Checked her vent and no issues there
  • Comb is a lil floppy but red
  • I soaked her in Epsom salt bath for 15 mins, no egg came out, but her breathing slowed
Sat, March 14th
I checked her this morning, she's started off standing up and breathing heavy with her mouth open (no sound) but now her breathing has slowed, her mouth is closed, she ate & drank a lil and she pooped a lil (liquidy, mostly got on her hind feathers, normal color). Photo attached.

Thank you all for any thoughts or suggestions!!!

I would try getting some calcium citrate with D3 in her in case she is egg bound. Let me tag someone with more experience in that department @Eggcessive

I second the calcium, or you can give a Tums broken in pieces given orally. That can help if she is having trouble passing an egg. Her crop might be slow if she is having a reproductive disorder. I would check her crop each morning to make sure it is emptying overnight. If she passes any unusual droppings, post a picture.

Thank you for tips! I'll give her the Calcium and update later. THanks again (love this community❤️)
