Okay, this sounds stupid, but is Atlas some kind of Dominque mix? He was bought from TSC as a barred Plymouth Rock along with four other chicks, but one turned out to be a BR/RIR cross & another a Cuckoo Maran cross of some sort. The third, Nelly, is the only one that looks like an actual BR. Though, I thought Atlas looked like a 100% BR but the more I look at his feather pattern, the more I think it looks like a Dominique instead of BR. His single comb is the only thing really throwing me off. He’s 34 weeks old today, if that helps.

considering the rose comb gene is dominant and the single comb gene is recesive it is quite likely that he is a barred rock. if he was a dominique over a single comb veriety he would have a rose comb. he has all the traits of being a barred rock aside from the darker color

True, he's not as light as a male barred rock should be, but everything else says barred rock, I dunno.
I’m just doubting myself a lot about this lately, lol. It just seems like the barring on his tail feathers are more in a v-pattern than straight across. Though, I just started raising chickens in March, so I’m still learning.

The barring can be however, shape doesn't matter as much. Single comb and yellow legs makes him a barred rock.

Dominiques and Barred Rocks have the same pattern. This is one of my Dom girls.

But your roo has a single comb, so he is a Barred Rock.
