Chicken Breed Focus - Australorp

Pics
I have an australorp and she is mean when penned with the other hens. Some have bare backs and she pecks at them as if she's having a snack. I have to put her in a separate cage at night when I lock them up. I also caught her eating an eggs one of the hens laid while free ranging. She's nice to people, She actually follows me around the yard talking to me. I also have 2 maran/australorp hens and an EE mixed with some thing that does not lay a colored eggs. I have a black giant jersey and 2 buff orp pullets and 2 emglish orps that all run together. I took the roo away so the hens backs can grow feathers. My matriarch hen is an orp. She's got a bumm leg but it don't stop her. I think it's artheritis since I couldn't find any injury. She's about 6 or 7 years old and the only one in the yard with a name. Olivia. Maybe when I put my roo back with the hens I can send you some eggs. It will be a while since they are growing feathers back. If you want PM me your address and i'll send some when they come available. That is if your in the United States.

Yeah, mine was mean for a while and still occasionally is (mostly just chasing and pecking when someone tries to eat a snack but she used to jump them and fly across the yard. I saw her mount recently too, few weeks ago, after i thought she was nice) but she seems to have stopped since she started laying a couple months ago. She's very talkative to me though I find the Orpingtons especially friendly. And my Barred Rock is very personable but won't let me pet her really. I find the EEs have a lot of personality. One liks to watch me collect the eggs. Another recently started following me around the yard or abandoning the others to be near me when I let them free range which isn't as often lately. They are pretty skittish and flighty though plus I don't spend as much time lately with them as I should so they don't let me pet them or hold them and if you move too fast or scare then they run and are hesitant to come close at first but you can tell they want to be friends. And oh wow that's a very nice offer! Thank you! I would love it. I've never tried incubating before though but I've always wanted to try it. Though we're also in the process of building a new coop but maybe after the coop is finished, which hopefully won't be too long but you never know with us hah

Ohhhh okay. I was gonna say lol its okay, i misread it and thought you were saying they were all roos but i see now

I love my roos but that many would probably drive me crazy crowing. We are selling some of our Japanese

Aw that stinks but I can see why he would want to. Does he want other birds?

Yes he does we are having problems finding show quality birds in Florida or even figuring out what breed he would like. He is all over thee place on birds lol.

I know what you mean about show quality ones in this breed being hard to find. Most people that I have seen that do have the Australorps over here have had the pinched tails on them.
