Chicken Breed Focus - Faverolles

400

Clementine - our 9 week old Faverolle

I got faverolles from Keesmom yrs back and they were the sweetest birds ever. I was actually offered over $100 for my bantam hen, I got from her, after a woman's 2 yr old carried her around for about a half an hour. I didn't take it. I have some LF again but that are not nearly as nice looking birds as I had before

***For the poster who commented that her chicks are freaking out every time she comes near - I have seen this with every single hatch, and have heard it from others.  It's almost like Faverolles need time to grow into their brains or something.

For the poster that managed to get the birds to be friendly after a couple of weeks - good for you!

I think I need to go back and add a note to my post that I'm talking about Australian birds. They seem to be a bit different to yours in the U.S. The breeder I got them from was breeding from eggs bought from one of Australia's top breeders so they should be fairly good indicators of our breed.

With the quietening it was a very determined effort. I spent at least half an hour everyday sitting with them and slowly moving chick weed closer and closer to my hand till they ate from it. Food was definatley a big motivator for them :)

I have kind of a silly question for any salmon breeders. Can you breed salmons with other breeds? I'm curious because they have five toes and if that would give them a birth defect or something?

There are five, 5 toed breeds. Faverolles, Dorkings, Sultans, Houdans and silkies. It is not a defect.

What if I where to breed them with a four toed breed?

I love chickens, they are so fun. I don't have any, all i have is a 9 week old duck. I raised him since he was about 3 days old. I was told he's a hybrid, sort of looks like a black swedish.
I have been researching so much info on ducks and always ended up in this awesome website so I joined it last night. Love reading and seeing all the cute stories and pics of chickens and ducks...not to mention the useful information :)
