Do you own Leghorns? Are you a Leghorn breeder? If so, please reply to this thread with the your thoughts and experiences, including:

· What made you decide to get this breed?
· Do you own them for fun? Breeding? Some other purpose?
· What are your favorite characteristics about this breed?
· Post some pics of your birds; male/female, chicks, eggs, etc!
We were getting replacement chicks, as our chickens used to die a lot. Yes, we own them for fun, but ours lays eggs for us as well. I love how they have those big, floppy combs, and they have beautiful tails! This is Angel, our white leghorn, as a chick and an adult.

Leghorns are flighty, right? Or does that depend on the individual? And even though they're flighty, they're not mean right?
Mine were flights the first couple days ... once you handle them 2-3 times a day, they'll come flying up to you to be cuddled and held. Never knew chickens could be that intelligent and friendly. Maybe cause they bonded with me ... Tractor Supply shipped 1-2 day Olds I rescued. These gals demand to be petted and lapsit. 😆 👍 👌

Yeah I ended up getting one eventually a couple years after that post lol she was amazing and not flighty at all. Bold and curious LOL

🤔 I'd rather have flighty then snuggly
Mine was still very smart and knew how to hide from predators LOL but then again mine also wasn’t particularly snuggly. Just not very flighty with me. My Australorps and Orps on the other hand were big snugglers LOL and my bantam Cochin rooster 🤣 but even they knew how to hide. Mostly. There’s always one stupid one LOL

I have three white leghorns that are around 8 weeks old. I handled them quite a bit when they were still in the brooder in the hopes it would make them less flighty.

Now they are in the coop/run, they come when I call them, eat from my hand, and hop up on the roosting bar when I point at it. When I clean the coop they come in to watch and complain about the room service, as well. :)

They are much smarter than I realized.
