I have 4 Barred Rock hens, a white rock pullet and I am picking up a Buff rock hen today. I love my rocks.

We have 13 girls, only (1) is a rock, my wife loves that bird.. its her favorite,, its the friendliest bird of em all, lets her pick her up, sits in her lap and seems to love the attention... wife calls her "fanny" and says she's the best!

I have a whole flock of BR's and one of the roos just started crowing when it disappeared and cannot be found. They are free roaming and there is an older BR rooster that is mean to other breeds. I am wondering if it could have killed the Young Rooster?

Just wondering how old do most of you let your barred rock roos get before butchering ?

I've had them still good and tender up to 6 mo., probably even more so if kept in a pen and fattened.
