Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Pics
Great pictures, everyone. They sebrights sure are precocious and I love the coloring on the white ones.
Unbelievably, I have another crower! Three out of a dozen crowing girls! I love the sebrights but at this rate I won't have any birds left by spring! Agh!
Oh no! I only have the one Sebright. She's not silent - always making chattering squeaky noises, like talking- but never makes any loud noises. Of course I have 2 big Orp roos, so they take care of all the crowing.

How old are yours when they started to crow? Is it only in the mornings?

Mine chatter a lot too but this is really crowing, I have no roosters because the neighbors won't have it. The last one started with just a couple crows in mid morning and I thought it might be ok but a few days after working up to a proper crow she was going all day long.
I think the first one started at about 7 months old and the other two seemed to come up about a month after I remove the crower.

I was planning to try out some other kinds of bantams in the spring but I was really hoping to keep some of the sebrights around, too. :(

My Sebright is only 5 mo old. Her comb is pale & wattles haven't come in yet. It will be a long while before I get any eggs. I hope she doesn't start crowing. The roos don't know what to make of her. She's too tiny & quick to mate, so they just look confused when she runs past them. Thankfully, she has the sense to stay away from the giant roos and near the flock, so she gets some protection.

Does anyone else here have a Sebright in with LF breeds?

Mine free ranges with regular sized Polish, Sumatra & 3 peafowl, along with a few other bantams. He has no problem bossing everyone around, with the exception of his son & my peacock. His son keeps trying to kill him & the peacock just gives him side eye.

How are Sebright roos? I have the opportunity to adopt one but I need a friendly guy. I will obviously check out this particular roosters personality in person but I wanted to see if they are generally aggressive roos, if so I will not bother considering him. I have small children who love to play with my hens which is why I ask. We recently lost our cochin rooster who was the sweetest guy ever. How do Sebrights compare? Thanks!

My two boys Baldor and Loki are awesome, I have a 4 yr old who comes into the coop with me and they have never messed with him. They know that I am the one in charge and the almighty bringer of yummy treats.

Mine is both? LOL Somedays he's all love, others he's bloodthirsty. He adopted me when I had no experience with chickens, so I'm sure I put up with a lot more than most people here. I also don't have children, though, so I'm okay with a 2lb bird getting chippy with my rubber boots every now and then. Good luck when you visit him!

Ok, so I had to remove the latest crower (#3 of 12) and the next one started trying out a strangled attempt at a crow in the coop that very night.

I've got this crazy idea that the problem is that I have only sebrights plus one white bird who's even smaller. This, in combination with their talky, chippy (perfect descriptor, Uzi :) ) nature and the absence of Roos is generating this crowing pattern. I have different kinds of chicks ordered for spring but it will be months before there's any hope of them taking over leadership of the flock. So I thought I might try to find a pair of bigger bantam hens to introduce to the flock now and try to take alpha away from the sebrights. What do you think? I'm worried about what I might be bringing in with a couple adults from a different farm and flock, maybe this is just asking for more trouble?

This is just so frustrating. I've also been reading the threads about the no-crow collars, maybe I'll try one of those on the next one.....
