Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Pics
We got hit with a lot of snow last weekend. My chickens are wimps & didn't bother setting foot outside for several days.
In fact, wen I finally got my roo out, he simply jumped up onto the swingset to avoid getting cold feet!

On Tuesday by late afternoon some snow melted & we could see grass in spots. I was able to get the flock to step outside for some treats. My smart pair (the Sebright & Dominique) took a short cut & simply flew over all the white stuff & landed in the tree next to me.

These two crack me up. The BFFs are always mirroring each other. I have about 10 shots in a row like the ones below. It's like when my kids see the camera so they start making silly faces.

I love the pictures! We haven't gotten any true snow (maybe a tiny sleet amid the rain), but when it does snow my chickens won't go out in it at all. And when there are just patches of snow they try their best to fly over them. One of my hens, when she flew out of the coop and landed in the snow, just sat in one place until I carried her back in, the silly girl.

Thank you. The Sebright doesn't seem to like the cold at all. I'm hopeful that she will learn to stay warm between the other chickens. Normally our 1st real snow happens in Dec. Then the really deep stuff comes Jan-Feb. The mid Nov snowstorm really caught everyone off guard. I have 2 covered runs that I enclose with vinyl - like storm windows. It at least gives them some room to "hang out" when all the scary white stuff covers the ground. I see all kinds of pictures of chickens in the snow, but mine are actually wimps.

We had some unusually nice weather this weekend, so I took advantage & some pics. Here are some classic Sebright moments from our backyard. Trouble always likes to be the 1st to greet me & often jumps up onto a fence or tree branch to get a little closer.

Here's Trouble scoping out the area for treats.

Here she is after stealing the biggest treat she can carry. Of course this leads to a big flock chase & much entertainment. She's very quick & uses it to her advantage.

A close up in the rare Dec sunshine.

Great pictures, everyone. They sebrights sure are precocious and I love the coloring on the white ones.
Unbelievably, I have another crower! Three out of a dozen crowing girls! I love the sebrights but at this rate I won't have any birds left by spring! Agh!

Oh no!! I heard one of mine trying the other day, I think... but haven't pinned down which one it was. My little bantam cochin does all the crowing at my house, so maybe the sebrights are being slow because of him. At what age do they normally start crowing?
