Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Pics
I tried to get a pic of Trouble in flight. Lighting wasn't very good today but here are some action shots.

Mid-flight

Just before landing.
See how she sticks her feet out forward to grab hold of my arm? All I see are CLAWS coming at me. It's a trust exercise for both of us.

BTW- Trouble laid 4 eggs in 7 days. Now there are enough eggs for our family, so we don't have to fight over who gets to eat her cute little eggs. Of course, we'll still have to eat orp eggs if we want to make it a meal. DH still calls her our useless chicken. She hatched July 1st & just started laying a week ago. The eggs are pretty tiny. Oh well. I'm having fun with her.

Amazing photos! I think you should post them into the Flapper contest, because that is way better then the picture that I posted in there.

Very pretty! (I'm sucker for orps.) How do your orp roos treat your sebrights? Mine seem vey confused by the size diff. They can't mate "Trouble" but I've seen them tilt their heads like they were trying to figure out a way. They treat her like an underage pullet. Thankfully, their protection extends to her. I have seen a roo stand on the cold snowy ground while Trouble happily plays up in an evergreen tree. My hens have those poor roos wrapped around their little wing feathers.
Here are my roos. (Lav/Black Split English Orps)

Believe it or not, my sebright hen belongs to my standard rooster, she doesn't like the bantie roosters. I've seen her get bred by a huge standard rooster! I try to chase them away when they do that, I just can't imagine that not hurting her since she is like 2 lbs and the rooster 6 lbs to 8 lbs. Still, she likes her standard rooster and always hangs out with him and the standard hens.

My breeding pair my hen is 6-7 months and has laid 6 eggs so far

Gorgeous birds!

A few days ago I decided to go all artistic with some photographing while the sunlight was good. I took over 1,000 pictures

. These are some of the best of my sebrights. Our camera isn't good, but the lighting helped make up for that somewhat.

Spock in the sunlight. Spock is my breeder rooster that I'm using in a bantam cross. He has a number of nice pullets and some of his eggs may be incubating right now (I don't know who the father is of the eggs, perhaps more then one). I plan on getting rid of his sister, Diamond, who has a crooked beak. I don't want her passing it on to her babies.

Spock's tail

Beauty cleaning herself (she is not headless). She is a golden sebright hen and has gone broody twice so far. She is a great layer but an aggressive mother and has killed other hens chicks before.

Spock again. He was raised with two other sebrights (three actually, but one died young) and a silkie chick. He still gets along well with silkies, which is nice. Hopefully he will step up in position once I get rid of a few of the access bantam roosters.

Beauty cleaning herself above the dust bathing site. The dust all around made this really cool affect. They were really enjoying the dust bath in the sun light, and my roosters enjoyed not having to watch for predators since I was around so they were resting too (some of them, others were showing off to the girls).

Spock again

Spock thinking about crowing. When he wants to crow he stands up tall, looks around, and goes quiet. You can see how he starts to tense up 30 seconds or so before he crows. However, all my pictures of him crowing blurred.

Spock again. Yeah, he made some awesome pictures. His sister, Diamond, wouldn't sit still so well. His wattles are see-through because of the sunlight, which is really cool.

A half sebright rooster, I think this is Dusk (he looks a lot like his brother Twilight). He is part Silver Duckwing OEGB but has some mottling and lacing on his chest and a rose comb.

Beauty again. Her head looks small because her crop is full. Her tail looks small because she is relaxed, but it truly can look magnificent when she is foraging or hopping up onto a perch.
