Oh, that's right! It's winter for you Southerners! We're getting hot, cool, cloudy, cool, sprinkly, warm, cloudy, etc. Weather can't make up it's mind here in the North. But we don't mind -- after 6 years of scorching early Calif summers and losing a couple favorite hens I'll take these cooler temps ANYTIME! My one remaining Silkie lost her Silkie buddy last July and she's been toodling around alone away from the Dominiques and Breda. So sad to watch her being a loner but she's over 7 yrs old and a bit late for me to get a new Silkie companion for her. She and the other Silkie were together for 6 yrs. I don't think I'll add another Silkie this late in her life because if I should lose her then I'd still have a lone Silkie remaining. We're zoned for 5 hens/no roos and we're at 5 hens now counting the old Silkie. I have loved my two Silkies since starting a backyard flock and it's so sad to see them pass. I'm still crying over the one we lost last year to a bleeding ovarian tumor. She was my all-time favorite girl -- spunky with personality plus -- but isn't that the ones we always lose first?
We called her "Mini" for mini-chicken since she was our littlest hen -- R.I.P. sweetie!

Our remaining old Partridge -- she and her brother were our first backyard chickens -- we've cycled through 18 chickens in 7 years and she's STILL with us, bless her heart!
