He drinks but hasn't eaten much. Did your gosling survive?

Ok I'm taking that they just hatched so they wont eat much the first 24 hours due to the absorption of the yolk, if he is drinking water it is a good sign.

My gosling was like that when I got him at a week old, he was also dragging his little leg and was very weak he ate and drank and could manage so I let it be.

They are now 3 weeks old and he is running around with the others like nothing happened, the little leg came right on its own. Id say leave it for a day or two and see if he can manage if not something is wrong.

I also have one that survived a jackal attack his little leg is skew and he outruns the rest lol.

The other thing I learned that is vital for waterfowl is Niacin you find it in brewers yeast, they need it to develop strong bones.

I found a supplement at the pharmacy and give them a dose every time I change their drinking water.

Hi all, so an update on my progress









That slab from the roof is going to be a hinged opening to give us access to the eggs, with the entire back wall being removable for cleaning. We finished the fence frame and most of the wire, just need to put wire of the gate. So now its just the nesting boxes, a bit of paint, the mesh roof, and we're done

And then the chickens

The second and third pictures are of the new LF cochin pair, the second is of two of the three cochin bantams. The three bantams are so tiny, can't be more than 700g each, yet 1 of them has already started laying, the tiniest little egg I've ever seen. Then there are the two LF girls, they haven't started laying yet but are each around 2kg. The two little black cochins are so tame, we were standing around commenting on them, they seem a bit scared of the others, so they were hiding, next thing you now they were rubbing up against our legs and jumping up against us to be picked up. They seem to be, more than any of the others, used to being handled and are very affectionate. Within the week they will all be relocated to our place, can't wait

@whoop whoop Raptor is much the same, couldn't get a photo of him though, but he seems thrilled to have a couple more of the bantams with him, he was following them everywhere, he went into the coop for the first time following them

Heritagechickens.co.za has Orpington but I am waiting till budgies2bantams gets some , they have a breeding group and are cheaper so I'm waiting till they hatch some.
