Chicken broody?

A truly brooding hen will only come off the eggs once or maybe twice a day to poop, drink and eat.
If you open the nest box, she will most likely puff up and make an awful mean sound.
And a hen that was even the nicest lap bird you ever had may peck the snot out of you too if you get too close. Shes just being protective.

My broody hen let me pick her up to check the eggs, only lightly pecked me a couple of time.

She was out earlier in the morning, but that was while I was at work and I had been informed thaT from someone else. But when I was home I went out about every hour and she had not been out every time I was out. I opened the nesting box door and she did puff out at me and we could pick her up. My husband places her outside of the nesting box and she runs around and would puff out at the other chickens and ducks. We did try to take the ceramic eggs out of the boxes so there were indeed no eggs in there but she was still in the nesting box the night before and even 6:30 an this morning.

Sadly we just have one male duck no roosters :( ha I have just been keeping a close eye on her.... making sure she's eating and drinking.
