Chicken can’t walk...

UPDATE: Spoke with a good friend who has over 200 free range chickens and from today’s description she says she prob has something stuck in her gizzard or a tumor, as she has experienced this in the past many times. Sadly, Arya is exhibiting signs of pain, constant shaking and pushing, we will have to put her out of her misery. Sad day for us, but i won’t let her suffer.

I'm so sorry:hugs

You are doing the right thing by putting her down.
If you feel like you need to know what is causing her illness, you can send her body to your state lab this link should provide you with that information or they should be able to direct you on what to do http://www.agriculture.pa.gov/Protect/AHDServices/Pages/default.aspx

If you feel up to it, you could do your own informal necropsy, taking a look at the abdomen, internal organs, gizzard, etc. If you do that, take photos and post them, we may not be able to give you the best answers, but we can give you an opinion of what we think.

Thanks everyone. We won’t be getting or performing autopsy. It’s pretty evident it’s in pain and it’s hard enough just putting her down. Again, thanks for all the info. We feel we’ve done what we could.

I am sorry for your loss. :(

Agree it's one of the harder things to do even when you KNOW it is the right choice.

Sorry, I've raised more than a hundred "free range" birds myself and don't claim to know it all... but I disagree with your friends' diagnosis. While stating that 1) Marek's does cause tumors but not ones that you would see most likely, and 2) She would NOT be eating and drinking or pooping with a blocked gizzard. 3) A blocked gizzard wouldn't explain the prolapsed vent. Those symptoms don't line up.

I'm an attention to detail type person.. Beware of symptoms in other birds. Hopefully you won't see any more! :fl
