Chicken can't stand up

i agree i think she has hypothermia. i had a stupid silkie hen sit in an open water pan cuz bathing last winter and froze both her feet solid while we were takeing self waters home to thaw. she had hypothermia and major frostbite and acted the same way u r seeing. i agree with diana.

I'm not sure its hypothermia at this point. She has been kept warm, quite and indoors for 2 full days. Today is the third. Paralysis seems to be getting worse. This morning she has her beak pointing straight up in the air. If stimulated she will shift about a bit but still unable to stand and can't seem to get her neck/head into a normal resting position. We are proceeding with antibiotics.

Talked with our vet yesterday. They are a bit puzzled as well but encouraged us to do the antibiotics, keep an eye on her symptoms, keep her quiet, warm and quanrantined and watch the rest of the flock.

it is possible it is a disease cuz in those temps she should be smart enough to go inside unless something was wrong before but i still think it is hypothermia from being out in cold all night.

i think she is still to cold internally and not retaining body heat and in shock and not eating enough. if i remember right fast warming, dry heat. ours took about 5-7 days to actually be up again moveing totally and walking. antibiotics will help clear up or prevent scondary infections but at this point i see no reason she needs it but it won't hurt either.

u need to get her to eat anything u can at this point, hard boiled eggs chopped up, scrambled eggs, yougert mixed in feed, fruits, warm oat meal anything u can get her to take to get the vitamins and keep hydrated. she definately need vitamins in her if she is not eating enough and sugar water will help to make warm inside and give energy. cyeane pepper sprinkled on food helps warm and circulate blood to if u can get her to eat something with that on it.

I have one hen out of 21 that was doing this same thing this afternoon when I went to check on them. She was laying somewhat on her side and she is very warm. It was rainy and cool today around 48 degrees. They have the free choice of going out in the covered run or staying in the coop with the heat lamp during the day and at night are in the coop. Anyway, I brought her in and am going to give her some oatmeal with olive oil? And, sugar water? Any other suggestions? She did walk over to the "nest" I made for her in the kennel and is resting there. Her crop felt normal and it didn't feel like there was an egg stuck. Oh, I'm just hoping I can help her through this.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

UPDATE: she is eating the warm oatmeal w/olive oil as she lays on the "nest" . I guess that is good?

Hi I'm new here too I have a rooster who was being raped by a different rooster so I took him out of that pen and put him in a different one with a bucket of straw to sleep in and covered him with a tarp every night I'm case of rain and it was getting pretty cold and I noticed he wasn't coming out of his bucket so I took him out and sat him down in a different pen and he just collapsed he can't stand on his own falls to one side but he kicks and fights too I've been trying to hold him up and let him eat and drink everyday but he doesn't seem to be getting anybetter and I've had him on the house for 3 days now any ideas

Start checking him over very carefully for injuries.Check up and down legs, feet, hip. Can he stand on one leg,is he using wings for balance? After attack could he walk? Has he been eating/drinking?

I did look him over for injuries I didn't notice any he was eating and drinking and walking fine after the attach the issues didn't start til like 3or 4 days after he's lives in the pen by himself and he eats and drinks when I hold him up other than that he just fights to try and stand and pushes himself around

He was using his wings to balabce the first day I brought him in but he doesn't seem to to much any more he picks himself up and uses his tail feathers to try and balance but just ends up crashing to the ground

How long ago was attack? Is he walking low to ground,on hocks? When he was using wings for balance was it one wing or both? Is he eating/drinking? Still sounds to me like a leg/hip/tendon issue/injury.

It was September 24th and it was both wings and no he try's to stand straight up but just ends up pushing himself around on his I do don't know (chest area) thank you by the way for trying to help me I feel so bad for him he's not eating or drinking on his own but if I hold him up near his food he will eat it and I've been giving him water with a dropper he will eat watermelon on his own when I sit it next to his face thought
