Chicken carrying an egg..

I have had people tell me they have never seen or heard of a chicken doing this.. She went broody in the nesting box. After two days, carried this one out and about 4 of them ate it. Left the other two eggs. She has been sitting on 6 eggs for a week now elsewhere in the coop. View attachment 1742102

Was the egg soft?
I don't think any of the hens here could do that with their eggs. They don't have sufficient beak depth to grip over the largest diameter point of the egg. They would have to dislocate their jaw to grip the egg.:lol:
 
last year i had a bunch of broodies.. the eggs were all marked with a code so if i found one out I knew who kicked it out and how far along it should be. One hen stole all her neighbors eggs and another had eggs from several nests.. I figured they tucked it under a wing or between their chest and bill
