Chicken chat!

Peppermint: Oh, the humans didn't kill him. The loud, barking, scary dogs killed him. They also killed 3 of my flockmates, but that was before I arrived here.

SOPHIA: how terrible! My mommy has a collie named Beau. He never attacks us. In truth, he's a little scared of us. Shh! Don't tell him I said that! Your mommy should get a collie. They are very smart and great with us!

Peppermint: That is a good idea. I've tried telling her stuff ALL the time in clear words, but all she does is make all these weird sounds. I think human-language is very hard to understand. My queen knows how to communicate with her though! She has trained mommy to give her food when she hits the boots with her weird, toeless feet(don't tell her I said that her feet are weird. She told me that she survived a very scary attack, but lost most of her toes)

SOPHIA: My mommy has learned to understand chicken-talk. She now knows what I mean when I demand in chicken-talk to sit on her lap. But I am afraid I'll never learn human-talk, only the special words she uses to call us to treats. She told me it was from a book she read when she was little. It goes like this: "La la la la lei!" I come running when she calls that! Does your mommy have a special call she uses when she has treats for you?

Peppermint: Sometimes she just calls "chickies!" or something like that, but usually, we hear her walking down our hallway and know she might have treats. Or we hear the bag rustling that she brings yummy treats in! I love when she brings us grapes, and I try to eat most of them! What is your favorite treat?

I am going to join in the point of view of Suzie B, our Brahma.

Hello peeps! My momma human says Chickie-chickie to get us to come. We race to her because usually she'll have snacks. Then she'll abduct one of us and take us in to the mysterious in-side. She takes me in a lot because I am the sweetest and will sit in her lap. My favorite treat is oatmeal. Recently we've been hiding a lot under the porch because it is three degrees cooler down there. Do you have a favorite hiding spot?

Peppermint: Nice to meet you Suzie! I'm not much of a hider, much more an escaper. I love to get out and find food under the pine trees or around the peoples' coop. Oh, and I think our mom got us a Brahma, but I've only met her a couple of times. All I did was try to bite her, you know, to show her who's boss, but mom grabbed me and put me back in the coop, so I guess that wasn't what she thought I should do:confused:

Well, I do feel sympathy for that poor Brahma, as I'm not exactly high up the pecking order. I totally get what you find in escaping. Just yesterday I escaped while the human-momma's DAD(crazy, right) was taking out a bike, but only made it to the front yard before they caught me. Once though, I made it one street over and then another block forward so one and one makes...3? Anyways, the humans eventually found me in someones awesome backyard, full of bugs, I tell you. Ah, those were the days... Then they found our shortcut onto Omar, the street over from us and blocked it up with chicken wire. Humans.:he:confused:

Peppermint: So sad that they took away your escape route! Sometimes my chicken-lady mom blocks me, but usually she forgets. Do you every fly up on your mom sometimes? I did that recently when I was scared of the tiny, fluffy thing with a blue beak and feathered legs that doesn't even LOOK like a chicken. She's in with the new Brahma and other chickens and always tries to attack me!

SOPHIA: My favorite treat is some meat, mostly steak is what my mommy feeds me of meat. Or I like corn on the cob, raw cabbage, and MEAL WORMS!
