Hey were you following me last year? I was doing the same thing. I got smart this year. In the spring I was running late for work, had gotten dressed and ran out to do the feeding and watering, DOWN I went in a nice big wet muddle puddle, was so PO, I was sitting in the puddle cursing and crying. After that incident, I bought a head lamp and started getting up 15 mins earlier and do all the chores before I get in the shower and get ready for work. The old man though is still dumb, he tends to our ducks, gets ready for work then goes out, I told him it only takes one slip and your going to end up in the duck pool.

I learned to switch my schedule around after my dogs continued to get my work clothes dirty as I was putting them in their kennels before leaving. DUH MOM! Chores first, then shower

I don't get home from work til 8 or 9. So, it's been dark for a couple of months when I get home. We don't have electric in the barn, so I got those battery operated lights my mother in law bought from QVC several years ago that you mount on the wall and they work well, have only gone through 1 set of 4 AA batteries in 3 months, so not bad. But no way to leave the eggs out all night now without them freezing! I really can't wait for a little extra light in the spring.

I couldnt even begin to tell ya how many times I have gone to work with mud or straw on me from taking care of the girls in the morning. One day I went in and someone asked if I had a mud fight before work, I was completely lost until I remembered my Aracauna had jumped up on my shoulder and slid a little till she got a good grip. I just chuckled, thats what happens when you have kids lol

Sunset is before 4:30:/ here and darkness sets in about 4:50. No way to get home and do my chicken chores in the daylight unless I do them in the morning. So it is. Typically I let the chickens out about 5;50

and that seems to be when daylight is crackin. I like seeing the eggs when I collect them.

Once i was at my freinds and they have 40+ chickens. it was well after dark when we went out to close them in for the night, do milking, and other animals etc. Well SOMEBODY forgot that there was an electric fence that was turned on! ZAP!!!!

Anybody read "The Dirty Life"? A friend of mine bought it for me when I had said that I want to get to work CLEAN!! And NOT SMELLY! It was actually very good. The town folk I work with have NO idea how dirty I get BEFORE work. Tonight I get home at 5pm, in the pouring rain and have to bring home 3 shivering horses, find one errant rooster and close up everybody else. I try hard not to walk into the electric fence.
