I need Help! My female silkie was left out in a rain storm for probably about 8 hours. By the time I found her, she was drenched, lethargic and I thought she was going to die.I brought her in and gave her a warm bath and blow dryed her since she was freezing. She also had her head almost like crooked to the left side. I forced vitamins and electrolytes down her throat and started her with duramycin. She lived and has been eating and drinking but she has difficulty it seems finding the food. Her crest is pretty large but that didnt stop her before though shes on the slow side. Now I have her isolated in a rabbit cage in the house and shes been constantly sneezing. Is there something else I should give her? Also shes about 4 months old. Shes is the one on the far left ( dark blue before she was sick)

Poor sweetie! She MIGHT have gotten a respritory infection of some kind secondaray to get drenched and frozen. You are doing good with what you have been doing...How long has she been on meds? Maybe time to switch, if its been over 4-5 days, to something stronger.....

Being drenched to the bone, she may have pneumonia. You need to do Tylan injectible antibiotic, which is preferred for respiratory stuff. 1/2 cc/ml in the breast muscle once a day for 3-4 days. A friend had this happen to hers as well, Cetawin. The vet and I both said they probably got pneumonia and she gave the Tylan. Circumstances would say that's what happened, maybe even she got water in her ear canal as well.

If they get pneumonia from getting cold and wet is that curable? Or do they remain carriers of a respitaory disease?

Pneumonia is not contagious. It's situational, related to her soaking, if that is what it is. She didn't catch it from another bird, so of course, it's not a carrier thing.

Good to know, that's what I thought. I think I've been reading to much about diseases and now I'm stressed out and paranoid over any little sneeze. I need to read happy stuff.
