Chicken Comb and Earlobe Turning White????

So I have this Cochin and I have a post on her, but her ear/earlobes are white and her comb in the back is a little white. I thought I saw 1 black spot only on 1 side, but she couldn't keep her head still!! She also has a scab on her wattles. I saw my dominant hen picking on her and I don't know if I should be worried about the white ears and maybe 1 black spot I might have seen. I don't know if it's like a pest or a fungus or just being picked on. My two other hens' wattles and combs and ears are nice and red. Hope someone can answer this!!

Can you get a photo of her? It is really best to be able to see the bird as often when reading a description what we envision is not what is actually happening.

On the top picture you can't really see the white, but there is an individual white spot and 2 black spots close to her beak on the comb still. On the bottom picture there is a white spot that is closer to the back of her comb and I'm a little bit afraid. She kept moving her head so it was hard to get some really good pictures so that you could see the spots, but I saw some white SPOTS that weren't like a part of some of that white on her comb. I also saw some black SPOTS. They might be scabs, but I'm not sure. They were very tiny and very close to her beak so I don't know how my dominant hen could've gotten her there.

If one of my chickens did get Fowl Pox how could I stop it from spreading and maybe letting her live in comfort and not in pain from the sores?

Fowl pox is caused by a virus, carried by mosquitoes, no treatments are effective.
Dry Pox is black spots, it's pretty common, really doesn't hurt them, and will pass in time.
Have seen it come and go on my birds.

Wet Pox is much worse and is open sores with pus and often on the inside of the mouth it can be fatal.

The white stuff, not sure what that is, have heard much speculation from some kind of fungus to a normal paling of the skin.
I think it's some kind of fungus.

Your hen, to me, looks perfectly fine although looks can be deceiving.

Do the white spots come off?
If so... That is concerning.

What they look like to me though is just a dry comb. Try putting some Vaseline on her comb, wattles, and earlobes. This isn't necessary for chickens, but it does brighten up their combs. Be careful to not over you the oil. A small amount just to make it moist is perfect.

The first picture here is what it would look like if it was a fungus. (also this chicken naturally has a white earlobe)

This one here is just a dry comb. Ingore the yellow and black spots at the tips here. That just frostbite.


Are your chickens new to he flock? Or is your flock overcrowded? Or do you have a bossy rooster or leader? These can cause comb pecking, which will heal quickly. Vaseline will also discourage comb pecking.

I heard from other forums that the earlobe changing colors can be a sign that she is molting and it will return after her molt.
If she is still maturing, the color of the earlobe while change to the color of what color egg it is laying.

You hen looks very heathy to me, except I would keep a close eye on her for the next couple days just in case. :-D
