Chicken coop build 8’ x 20’

I have found that even though the timbers are pressure treated, they do NOT last when in direct contact with the ground. I only wish I had put mine on cement blocks instead of placing in the soil. Some only last 5 years....then what? And I live in the PNW, too. I've had some very frustrating experiences with PT lumber. It's SUPPOSED to last 40 years...many of mine never made it past 10.

I suppose if the foundation rots, we could dig out, detach from the coop and replace. Or, we can build an even better one! My husband is already talking about his next coop design. He wants to rebuild bigger in 8 years :)

My husband has been really generous with his time and help on the coop build, but he is done with this project monopolizing all his time. He'll help with the rest of the roof and I'll finish the odds and ends on my own and get everything cleaned up.

He got over that quickly 😂

Just as well... good builders are not allowed to retire!

Yeah we have our coop on PT skids which sit on concrete blocks. Keeps it off the ground, and makes it more feasible to move/remove in the future if we so choose.

My husband is a perfectionist. Anytime something wasn’t perfect on the coop, I’d tell him the chickens won’t care and he’d say that he’ll build me another one in 8 years now that he knows what he’s doing. I also think my chickens are growing on him. They follow him around like the Pied Piper and I’ve caught him talking to the chickens and checking on them 😂

We are officially finished. We also got our very first egg today 💕 I guess we finished just in time! 20B1CA95-679B-4300-B4C4-753A45FBD768.jpeg 19665AF1-5710-4840-83C5-5D0EA8443084.jpeg 572381AA-BB6D-4A17-AE62-DD70DB9595EB.jpeg 2EB4B67F-CA57-47C8-A7C5-A05403EBE7E3.jpeg 024CF74C-9520-49FC-9B64-CA156A3ABC1D.jpeg 15412289-BAB4-42D2-A485-5C642F6A61A8.jpeg 6FEA33AD-1BD2-4E0B-9890-69389006198B.jpeg 368250C4-2591-4F47-BFEC-A8137B2A4689.jpeg E923958F-07A6-42A6-BF60-D65641C0E809.jpeg 79BD8457-DC60-40EF-ABA2-7DA1B6DCE95C.jpeg CA9B14AB-739C-4670-90FC-7F29AF064601.jpeg
