Not sure a monitor roof would be the best for the OP's climate.

I've seen a lot of monitors and functional cupolas on old barns in NH when we lived up in New England.

The old ones often have wooden louvers to keep the snow out while letting the air flow.

Looks really similar to mine! I also have an 8x12 footprint. I put in an interior wall 4 feet from the door so I have a 4x8 storage space and an 8x8 chicken space.

I really love the setting. Chickens are naturally creatures of the forest floor and that shady woodland will be wonderful to them.

It’s done! Just need to finish up some exterior painting and make some roosts in the run but the chicks are in the coop! They spent their first night last night and seemed to be happy this morning
