Hi, I'm new here and could use some info on building a chicken coop. I bought some plans online (that could have been my first mistake). The bill of material says my base boards need to be 48"long. but the coop design is 50' deep and 72" long. If the boards are cut to 48" how can the coop be 50" deep? I guess I am not sure of the placements of the boards or something. These plans are from Karl from DIY chicken coops website. This is an A-frame type coop with the coop at the top and the run at the bottom. Any ideas on how this is supposed to come together? The plans don't spell things out very well either.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Is it possible the end boards that make up the A are fastened to the ends of the base boards??

The boards can be 48" long but 51" deep if the boards they are attached to are at their ends. Are you using 2x4's? If so, a 2x4 is actually 1 1/2 x 3 1/2. So if you have your 48" board and you add the 1 1/2" side of a 2x4 to each end, at a 90-degree angle to form the next sides, you will actually have 51" depth.

The bill of material says: 2x2x48' is the base. The A frame leg is 2x2x46". The dementions of the coop are supposed to be 50x72. We did cut the length at 72". but the base is what is throwing me. I wonder if the plans are wrong somewhere along the line? The plans also say to cut the ends at 'an angle per the demensions shown on the drawing" Well, they don't say what 'angle'. It just appears to say a 1"cut from the end. 1" is not an angle. Maybe I am being too picky

The 2x2x48 isn't actually 2', it's just a bit shy as a pp mentioned.
If you're using those two boards as the long side base pieces and fastening the vertical, angle end pieces to the ENDS of the base boards you will get the 50' that the plans are suggesting.

The ends of the boards will have to be cut at an angle in order to rest "flat" on the ground because your construction is not at 90 degree angles as this is a A frame coop.

Thanks so much. I think the picture is coming together in my mind.
