To start, fyi....I personally do not have any chickens...yet..

I am building a chicken coop & run that are approximately 120 square feet in coop and around 250 in the enclosed chicken run area.

My specialty is woodworking, I designed and am building this at the request of my client. They currently have 5 chickens, but want to add to those also do broilers, possibly 2 sets at a time. I spent well over 6 months of research before finally putting pencil to paper toput everything together. It is not complete yet, still have details to attend to also need to enclose chicken run area to keep out predators, including family dog that helps herself to the eggs the hens lay here and there.

Part of my research with those who raise chickens specified 4 to 5 square feet per chicken. that the chicken run area should be 2 to 3 times the coop space. I tried to maintain these ideals keeping in consideration my client also wants to work hydroponics in with the chicken coop and gardens around and even on top the roof.

Too cold to work outside, at least for me. I need to finish trapezoid screens with hinges I am installing to block off all 14 vertical openings at below each window.

I will then install brass sleeves to prevent wire from cutting edge of holes, install eyelets to guide the wire and finally pulls at the end of each wire.they can be opened separately or client can add an a motor, connect them and control with a switch or toggle of some type. building has no electricity supplied to it. Solar power for lights and anything else necessary is my plan.
Also open to any ideas on a brooder or two. Anyone have commendations on solar design and what may be needed for this coop & run area?
As I have previously stated, this is for my client and I am new to chickens.
However, I am seriously considering a similar idea on my property. Have to convince the wife first!
