Chicken Coop Fire - Help

Just read your initial post - what a nightmare! I am so happy to hear your chickens are adjusting now. So sorry you lost those babies!

And they are DEFINITELY NOT "JUST" CHICKENS!

Do not use oragel or anything with any pain medicine ending in "caine" for chickens...it can kill them. I believe you can use aloe vera and if I am not mistaken, baby aspirin crushed up.

Orajel, applied topically to a burn on a comb of a chicken that is isolated from other chickens will not harm it or the other chickens. It shouldn't be given internally, or where the chicken can reach with its beak, however. This advice was given to me by my very experienced vet (a farm vet, not a town vet), who sadly passed away not so long ago...

how absolutely awful. i can't imagine coming home to such a sight. your poor chickens. ask your co-workers if they would feel the same if one of their cats or dogs burned to death.

I hope your injuried chicken(s) heal quickly.

Sorry about your loss, glad to hear you are mostly recovering. I am quite curious as to the cause - lightning seems far fetched, given the taller trees surrounding the coop - was there electrical to the coop? possibly a short?

How about an angry neighbor tired of all the clucking?

That is a tragedy I am sorry for your loss .. Hope your surviving chickens heal fast and that you are able to rebuild with out it being too much of a hardship ..

Your post brought tears to my eyes. I too love my animals, they are my kids! I would have also suggested aloe Vera because it works so great on burns, is natural, and consumable by humans so it would seem safe. Give them time to adapt to new roost, that had to have been very traumatic for them. Lure them in at night with a special treat. My girls love broccoli. Best of luck and prayers~
