Chicken Coop Fire!!!

Chicken.Lytle :

I have no experience with this whatsoever, but I will try to offer some ideas....

If you have a small number of chickens, maybe you could put them in a box and perhaps cover it with a towel like a parakeet in a birdcage.

If you have a large number of them and they are tipplers, maybe you could spike their water.

If they have some kind of comfort object, like a blanket of teddy bear, maybe you could put it nearby.

If they are tired but uncomfortable, maybe you could provide a cozy place for them to snooze.

Good luck. Glad you saved the flock.

I'm sure she was kidding with the suggestion you drug your chickens.
Just make them a "new coop" area and they will figure it out. I find they are very resilliant creatures. Keep that coop area tigh so they can create their own body heat, cuddling with eachother and thus comforting eachother.
I would also reccomend you NOT keep them in the house but in the garage. It would be too warm for them in the house and might shock them physically.

Don't use a heat lamp ever again!! I had the same thing happen- I was not home. Lost ALL birds, and if it wasn't for the snow on the ground I would have burnt down the woods and house! Your birds will be fine I'm sure, just recovering.

LOL

There's a silver lining to every cloud!

The hens will clam down. Chickens don't like change, even moving their coop 8 feet to the left will leave them perturbed.

Don't worry too much, people burn down coops every year, be glad your birds made it out alive

that must of been one scary ordeal, I am glad your chickens are ok. try maybe giving them a little warm oatmeal and maybe they will calm down a bit. because of the drastic change and chain of events they might be a little feathered for a little bit. Good luck with your new coop. lots of hugs
