Chicken Coop on Craigslist. What do you think?

don't know if I would want the "treated lumber".

Also, would need to add solid side/back for some protection from weather especially in winter.

It's got chicken wire on it... you'll likely want to replace it with hardware cloth. When considering how much it costs to build something, don't forget to assign a value to your time and effort and stress. Even for me, knowing how to build stuff and having the tools, at $120 I'd just buy the darn thing and replace the wire rather than go to Home Depot, load up the lumber, drag it all out in the yard, etc etc etc etc. And, if you want to build another one, that one looks like it would make a good pattern to work from.

In Louisiana, enclosing the walls with boards or bits of tin will likely be sufficient for winter. Right now, with the humidity and heat index, I'd leave it wide open.

Edited to add: I don't see any diagonal bracing on it. You might give it a good shake while you're there, and offer a lower price if it's wiggly, then get it home and screw a 1x4 across each end from the top of the short wall to the bottom of the tall wall, and a couple across the back.

Those of us who live in hot areas do not want enclosed areas--too hot. Open is much better. Now if the OP were from a part of the country that gets really cold weather, I would agree with you.

If you just want to put a few chickens in there, say, maybe a breeding trio, or just three hens, or some chicks that are in that in between age--too old for the brooder, but not ready to be with the adults, then it could be very useful.

I'd buy it, looks in good shape and the work is already done!!

I would say that is a fair price for that coop. He has his labor and material into it. Its very small but I don't know what your needs are. That add does make me want to build some like it though for sale. I have tons of that material laying around.

Someone said to replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth. Why? Chicken wire works well for chickens, don't it?
